At work there's a message board on the intranet. It's typical of staff message boards everywhere, full of flats to rent and cars for sale, plumbers wanted and odd gems like a free 5k run, complete with medal. And I do like a good medal.
After donning an orange t-shirt and snooping around the Reebok Sports Club (who hosted the event) we headed down to Montgomery Square in the heart of Canary Wharf for an energetic warm up/dance (in the case of my colleagues) before heading out on a course that took us through the weird utopia of Canary Wharf and along a part of the Thames Path that was new to me before slipping on to pretty Narrow Street. A simple out and back along a pretty river route - perfect for a mid-week 5k!
I always try and push myself extra hard on Wednesdays, feeding off the support I get running with the adidas26rs or in a race like this one. This week was no exception. I don't really run with a pace in mind, I just push myself that little bit more and work a little bit harder until I can't do more, and I really did that this week! It possibly wasn't my fastest ever, but I ran hard and gave it my all along that lovely route on a wonderful sunny evening.
In all the run worked out a little shy of 5k at 2.95 miles but that didn't matter, what mattered was getting in a great, hard run with purpose.
