#shelfie: Bridesmaid Make-Up To Last All Day
There's something very therapeutic about putting on make up, layering it on with care and attention, putting on your face for what lies ahead. Day to day I don't wear anything on my face (essentially the result of laziness), but for a big event I like to put the effort in, for me it signifies rising to the occasion, especially when there are special duties ahead such as being a bridesmaid.
I'd thought quite a lot in advance about the type of make up look I wanted to put together for Sophie's wedding, and how important it was that it reflected the style of the wedding and the bride (which were intrinsically linked). With an English country theme and a light pink colour palette I landed on a make up look that aimed to be glowing, naturally pretty and crucially had staying power.
I started out by making sure my skin was swept clean of any gunk using a simple micellar cleansing water, I love how gentle this stuff is even on sensitive skin, and I tend to use either Garnier or Bioderma. Next I applied a few spritzes of Caudlie Eau De Beaute, which promises an instant boost of radiance, but mostly smells delicious. I tend to have a bottle of this stuff on me at most times for a little pick me up through the day. Once I'd spritzed I patted on a layer of Clarins' iconic Beauty Flash Balm as a base for my make up.
Prep done and it was on to the base. Because I knew I had a long day ahead I used Clinque's beyond perfecting foundation and concealer, applied with a Beauty Blender. I love how versatile this product is, you can build it up depending on how much coverage you need, it literally covers anything (eye eczema!) and I've never found it bothers my sensitive skin. Total winner. Following foundation I applied a touch of L'Oreal's Lumi Magique under my eyes (the best drug store dupe for Touche Eclat I've found) and a little dab of Benefit High Beam over my cheekbones, temple, nose and chin - another staple of my make up bag and well worth the money as the super-sized bottle lasts for ages! I set everything with a bit of L'Oreal Nude Magique BB powder buffed on with a massive Real Techniques powder brush, both products that have been a staple of my beauty bag for ages, both really excellent.
Once my base was sorted it was time to have some fun and whip out my proudest make up possession - my Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette - this thing is the dream, yes it is pricey, but it suits everyone, the powders are soft as silk and it saves you buying a tonne of different products. Oh and it's great for travelling, in part because it's got a massive mirror. I essentially followed Charlotte's YouTube video using the bronzer and highlighter to lightly contour, swishing on a light coating of eye shadow (complemented with Rodial brown eyeliner, Benefit They're Real lash primer and Maybelline Mega Plush mascara) and adding a pop of colour with the blush. All of this was then fixed with Mac's Fix+ - a must when you have a long day ahead.
For my lips I wore my favourite nudey pink, Soap and Glory's Super-Colour Fabulipstick in The Missing Pink, a really wearable and flatting shade that makes your lips look like your lips, but better.
So there you have it, a pretty, natural bridesmaid's look that makes you look like a really good version of yourself and which crucially has some mega staying power.
