I've written a lot about what running has brought to my life, how it has made me fitter, healthier and most importantly happier. A lot happier. My personal experiences are one of the reasons why I work so hard to encourage others to engage in sport, I truly believe that for women physical activity can be a major catalyst for change, whatever they have going on. Challenging yourself physically doesn't just develop your fitness, it's also great for your mental and emotional wellbeing.
#GIRLGAINS is the brainchild of fitness and lifestyle bloggers Zanna Van Dijk, Tally Rye and Victoria Spencer, and it aims to create a movement that unites women and empowers them to become fitter, healthier and happier. It's something I can totally get onboard with, and that's why I was psyched when Reebok Sports Club in Canary Wharf invited me along to meet the girls and take part in HIIT class complete with live DJ.
Now, I have to admit, HIIT isn't my preferred workout, I'm more of a reps girl (actually, I'm more of a runner, but that's another conversation), but this was a class that pushed me. Led by Tally we were taken through punishing sets of everything from bunny hops to burpees to planks. By the end my whole body felt like jelly and I couldn't get the grin off my face. If anything is a confidence booster it's endorphins from a tough workout!
As well as putting us through our paces Victoria and Tally talked candidly about #GIRLGAINS and what it means to them. It was so inspiring to hear how it was born from friendship and shared passion, again something I could really identify with. Everyone needs support sometime, and having a community of like minded people around you can really help when things get tough. #GIRLGAINS aims to unite women so they too can have that support and build relationships with people who share their passions.
